About Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik, often referred to as the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” is a stunning city located on the coast of Croatia. The fascinating aspect that makes this town unique is its well-preserved medieval walls, which encircle the Old Town.
These walls date back to the 10th century, with significant additions and fortifications built in the 14th and 15th centuries. The walls stretch approximately 1.2 miles (almost 2 kilometers) around the city and stand up to 82 feet (25 meters) high in some places, offering breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea and the Old Town.
These walls have not only protected the city from invaders throughout history but also served as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
Dubrovnik is also very popular filming location, notably for the TV series Game of Thrones.
Dubrovnik is the proudest feather in Croatia’s tourist cap, an elite destination and one of the most beautiful towns in the Mediterranean. Dubrovnik used to be an independent republic, surviving mostly on trade. It managed to survive many centuries, with constant threats to its territory, particularly from the mighty Ottoman Empire and Venice. As early as 19th century, it was discovered by celebrities as a place to be seen. George Bernard Shaw once said that “those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik and find it”. Royalty, presidents and diplomats have all favored the city. The late Pope John Paul II was a fan of Dubrovnik and was even made an honorary citizen.
